Therefore it is recommended to reboot your Mac after updating OSXFUSE.

When volumes are mounted the old kernel extension cannot be unloaded. Version mismatch warnings are caused by updating OSXFUSE while FUSE volumes are still mounted. Judging from your comment in Issue #58 you are just getting a version mismatch warning. Are you sure you are getting a kernel panic? A panic means the whole system crashes and forces you to reboot.
